What I learned from my time at Your Life Nutrition

I joined this team of talented, warm, and quirky ladies in August of 2020 and I can say that I am quite a different person now than I was back then. Part of that is from surviving a pandemic, but another significant part is my time at Your Life Nutrition (YLN).

This was my first paid position in communications. With my minimal social media experience, I was able to convince Nancy King with my constant stream of ideas and eagerness to learn to take me on as YLN’s first Communications Specialist.

And boy, am I happy she did.

To be candid, I started as YLN’s “Social Media Manager,” but ended the position in charge of much more than just the company’s Instagram. With the support of Nancy and the team I took on updating the website, launching the YLN Blog and started the YLN mailing list.

A lot of that was new to me, but I learned quickly that with access to google, you can do almost anything.

But, what really allowed me to take on these new responsibilities, some of which I pitched myself, was the freedom Nancy gave me to create. Even from our short time together she trusted me and always let me know it.

The best part was the excitement Nancy showed in having me present my ideas to the rest of the team as she believed in them as much, if not more than I did.

And the rest of the team followed suit. They would go out of their way to compliment a post I made or an idea I had. This all gave me the confidence to refocus my energy spent stressing about if I’m doing something well, to generating new ideas and creating quality work for the company.

It also helped that I believed in the message of YLN and the content I was communicating to the public. From creating a safe space with an Instagram Live to reminding people to be compassionate with themselves in a post, the common thread being: help people help themselves with whatever challenges they are facing.

Having the privilege to communicate this to a wider audience got me excited to do my work.

On top of that, getting to know the team members throughout the year made me thankful that I was able to share the thoughts and opinions of these amazing human beings with the rest of the world.

I’ll definitely miss working with the YLN team, but I will always carry with me all I have gained from my time here into my next adventures.
